Solution had to meet a real need
Stora Enso is a global supplier of renewable packaging, biomaterials, and wood-based products—and one of the world’s largest private forest owners. At its Anjalankoski paper and board mills, Jussi Vehmas oversees the upkeep, rental, and maintenance of transport vehicles. Since 2021, they’ve used Kiho Fleet primarily for reporting service and repair needs and for pre-departure vehicle inspections.
“Before choosing Kiho, we compared it against our previous system, paying special attention to how well it handled vehicle and work-machine fleets,” recalls Vehmas. Together with Kymen Trukkipalvelu, they reviewed options to ensure Kiho’s capabilities matched their requirements.
Kymen Trukkipalvelu manages Stora Enso’s fleet at Anjalankoski and provides comprehensive rental services for forklifts and other work machines across Kymenlaakso, South Karelia, and Northern Savonia. Kimmo Taavitsainen, their service manager, was involved from day one:
“Stora Enso wanted to replace multiple systems that had broken workflows—updates failing, permission conflicts, and poor in-app communication. Jussi did the homework, and Kiho clearly stood out,” says Taavitsainen.
“We reviewed the alternatives, and Kiho proved to be the best fit thanks to its ease of use.”
— Jussi Vehmas, Stora Enso
Once Kymen Trukkipalvelu gave what Vehmas calls “at least a green light,” Stora Enso decisively chose Kiho for its simplicity and efficiency. The system rolled out across both the mills and the service hall.
Ease of use ensures smooth communication
After deployment, Kiho became part of daily operations. About 200 Stora Enso employees use it on mobile and desktop, while Kymen Trukkipalvelu handles most via their workshop PCs—though Taavitsainen also uses the mobile app as he moves around within a 200 km radius.
Kiho also serves as a resource-planning tool for Kymen Trukkipalvelu. Each morning, technicians review new service tickets and proceed accordingly. Although urgent issues still come in by phone, Kiho has greatly reduced constant calls and emails.
“When Stora Enso reports a maintenance need, the user, driver, or shift supervisor logs it in Kiho. Kymen Trukkipalvelu gets the alert and takes action. Since Stora Enso operates 24/7, calls and emails in the middle of the night just didn’t work—Kiho solved that,” explains Taavitsainen.
Real-time status updates are visible on both sides, cutting down uncertainty. Whether it’s a burned-out lamp or a full maintenance quota, reports flow from Stora Enso into Kiho and then into Kymen Trukkipalvelu’s workflow. “You see each update live: ticket created, maintenance started, maintenance completed—even notes when parts are delayed,” Taavitsainen praises.
Employees at Stora Enso have also appreciated the user-friendly interface and transparent communication. “Being able to attach photos to service requests is fantastic. The mobile app sends the image along with the description and user ID, and service teams can ask follow-up questions directly—drastically reducing call and email traffic,” Vehmas notes.
“If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”
Both Stora Enso and Kymen Trukkipalvelu are satisfied with the partnership and system performance. A recurring theme is Kiho’s simplicity. “Our work is hectic, and Kiho gives us exactly what we need. Technicians love it, especially how information flows unlike ever before,” says Taavitsainen. Vehmas agrees:
“When choosing a new system, the decisive factor was Kiho’s clarity and ease of use. We’re extremely happy with its performance, and Kiho stands ready with expansions whenever we need them.”
Kimmo Taavitsainen sums it up:
“You know it works when you don’t even notice it.”
— Kimmo Taavitsainen, Kymen Trukkipalvelu
Recently, Kiho’s scope expanded to include not just forklifts but also trucks, telehandlers, and wheel loaders—“There are no more blind spots,” in Taavitsainen’s words. “Kiho has eased our daily work and become part of the routine—you only notice it when it’s missing.”
